Haulin' Water - Winfield, Maryland Style!

On April 5th and 6th more than 80 folks from three Maryland counties got together to review the best practices of hauling water with tankers. The focus of our 16-hr Rural Water Supply Operations seminar was applying the best practices of hauling water while following the Carroll County SOP on structural firefighting. The 2-hr drill on Sunday was designed so that the first half of the drill would have tankers pumping off their water in a nurse tanker/rural hitch configuration and the second half would transition to dump tank operations. All of the tankers hauling water at the drill were able to pump-off their water in excess of 500 gpm and a flow of around 750 gpm was sustained during that part of the drill. When the transition to dump tank operations occurred, the flow was moved to approximately 1500 gpm. The transition to dump tanks was smooth and the operation was supported by three fill sites; two of which were colocated along the Patapsco River.

Many thanks to the Winfield Community VFD and their Ladies Auxiliary for the exception support....everyone had a great time! Instructors for the weekend were Mark Davis and Tim Legore.
