Class A foam systems are popular on many rigs today. Regardless of the brand of system, the system components require regular preventive maintenance in order for proper foam production. The foam concentrate intake screen shown in this News Story was about half full of "crud". It probably was not a big deal for simply reloading the 40-gallon on-board foam concentrate tank. But...had the operation changed to drafting foam concentrate and supplying attack lines with foam solution....well that probably would have proven problematic. The bottom line is to know the recommended maintenance procedures and follow them!
