On Sunday, August 25th, about 35 members of the Preston VFC and surrounding fire departments gathered to haul water for about 2-hrs using tankers. The drill culminated our 16-hr Rural Water Supply Operations Seminar that was sponsored and hosted by the Preston VFC located in Caroline County, Maryland. Crews used a combination of nurse tanker and dump tank operations to support a peak flow of just under 1100 gpm during the drill. Two fill sites were used to support the operation; both provided around a 3-mile roundtrip for rigs hauling water. Of special note, one of the fill sites used an irrigation system at a local farm as the water supply source. Many thanks to the Preston VFC for their excellent logistical support and hospitality. Instructors for the weekend were Mark Davis and Tim Legore. A full summary will be posted in a few weeks.
A peak flow of just under 1100 gpm was reached during the drill
The irrigation system provided about a 400 gpm flow for loading tankers. More could have been attained but the farmer was supplying 600 gpm to the irrigation system at the time of the drill.
