Dry Hydrant Design #65 - Bridge-Mount Installation - Champlain, New York

Last week we installed another one of our bridge-mount dry fire hydrants in New York State, this time in the North Country in the Town of Champlain near the Canadian border. The installation used our angle-mount design and an ETT suction head and stream strainer. New to this design was the use of our "Vermont" high-hat clamping bracket mechanism that allows us to install the system on rail posts made of square steel tube without drilling into the posts. This is a big advancement in terms of installation because it reduces the introduction of corrosion into the tube posts; no holes drilled means less chance for corrosion.

A flow test of the final installation produced 1,139 gpm using Champlain Fire District Engine 146, a 2,000 gpm pumper. Elevation at the location about 125-feet and lift was right around 12.5 feet. The project was funded by the Champlain Fire District and the Town of Champlain, but several agencies were involved in the design and approval of the project.
