When supplying more than one jet siphon, using a gated-wye can remove some of the stress on the pump operator by giving control of the siphons to another person whose sole job is to control the transfer of water. The photos that accompany this News Story are from our January seminar in Oconee County, South Carolina. The crew operating the dump site pumper used a 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" gated wye to set up the remote control of the jet siphons. The wye was manned by a firefighter whose job was to keep the primary dump tank full using two jet siphons to transfer water. The set-up worked just great and the folks supported a 960 gpm flow for two hours.
By using a gated wye on this 2-1/2-inch discharge, the pump operator did not have to worry about opening and closing valves to supply the jet siphons. This firefighter was placed in charge of managing the water transfer process.
The set-up is very simple.
A perfect stream!
The folks in Oconne used a bungee cord to secure the discharge end of the hard suction hose.
