Earlier this month we finished up another bridge-mount dry fire hydrant installation in Vermont. This time it was on River Road in the Town of Duxbury. The Vermont Rural Fire Protection Task Force through the Vermont Association of Conservation Districts (VACD) provided assistance to the Waterbury Fire Department in developing a plan to improve water supply in Duxbury. The Vermont Legislature approved appropriations to assist communities in installing dry hydrants to improve fire protection in the rural area of Vermont. The Vermont Rural Fire Protection Task Force, with the assistance of the VACD, administers the grant program.

The River Road installation used our angle-mount design and was equipped with our Jericho Ice Breaker feature to assist in wintertime operations....if needed. The installation also used an ETT 6-inch NH female suction head and an ETT 6-inch stream strainer. For the flow test we used Waterbury FD Engine 1, a 1500 gpm pumper that drafted and discharged water through the pre-piped deck gun. We were able to achieve a flow just under 1100 gpm. Lift at the time of the flow test was approximately 14-feet.
