Stream flow and drought information is an important area of concern for anyone trying to get certification of a stream as an ISO water supply point. The United States Geological Survey does all kinds of work relating to surface and groundwater. One item of particular interest is real time stream flow data.

Stream gaging stations are often installed near bridges or other water-way structures.

These gage stations generally record stream discharge rates (in cubic feet per second) and stream height in feet. Many of the stations can provide decades of flow data - which can help the stream gain acceptance as a FD suction point.
