What's on Your Tanker? #11 - Bringing More Than Water and A Dump Tank to the Game
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By President Mark Davis

What does you tanker "bring to the game?" Hopefully, every tanker brings water and a portable dump tank to the game. The better equipped tanker can bring suction hose, jet siphons, a low level suction strainer, an LDH appliance or two, and perhaps another dump tank to the game called rural water supply operations. As the first tankers arrive at a dump site, chances are good that the dump site crew is going to need some additional equipment, especially if the plan is to move to a multiple-dump tank operation. The same is true when the first tanker arrives at a fill site. If your tanker is well-equipped to support a dump site (and fill site) then the opportunity for success is enhanced.

During the 2-hr water supply drill at our seminar in New Castle County, Delaware last month, we found one tanker well-equipped to support water supply operations. Tanker 21 from Union Fire Company in Oxford, PA comes well-equipped to support dump site and fill site operations. The 3,000-gallon tanker carries two, 3,000-gallon dump tanks; four, 10-ft lengths of 6-inch suction hose; and a variety of appliances to support drafting and water transfer operations. Of special note is the "box of dump site toys" that is dropped at the dump site to support a multiple-dump tank operations. Well done folks! Your efforts are exemplary of understanding the logistical needs of a Big Water operation.
