While working on a water suppy study in Connecticut, we came across a really interesting idea that we had to share with folks. Clinton FD's (Connecticut) Engine 3 has a water tank level indicator light assembly on all four sides of the pumper. We have seen such indicator light assemblies on the the sides and rear of units - but the Clinton rig is the first time that we have seen a pumper with a tank level indicator light assembly on the front - and it makes sense.
Many times, an engine company crew works "in front" of their unit -especially at vehicle fires on a controlled highway or at fire down a narrow road or driveway. Being able to quicky see your available water on the pumper can be quite helpful. A tip of the helmet to the Clinton folks - nice idea.
The tank level indicator light assembly is seen illuminated just above the "Spartan" emblem on the grill of this 2008 Crimson pumper
When you know what you are looking for, this "subtle" light assembly provides some really good information about how much water is left in this pumper's 1,000-gallon water tank.
