The Bristol FD in Bristol, New Hampshire hosted our 8-hr Water Supply Officer Seminar on Saturday, May 17th. The program was sponsored by the Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Training Division and was conducted at the Bristol fire station. Students learned about ISO water supply requirements, municipal water supply systems, alternative water supplies, water supply pre-planning, and water supply operations in ICS. Instructors for program were Mark Davis and Shane Darwick.
Students prepare one of the test hydrants.
This hydrant was used to gather the static and residual pressure data points during the flow test.
This hydrant was the one closest to the test pressure data collection hydrant - so it was set up to flow water.
A HoseMonster flow diffuser with a fixed pitot was used to obtain a flow reading from the flow hydrant.
A flow of about 700 gpm was attained using the HoseMonster. Meanwhile, at the test pressure hydrant, a residual flow pressure was measured.
The data was then entered onto N 1.85 hydraulic graph paper and the flowtest results were produced.
The students also learned how to conduct a hydrant flow test using a handheld pitot and a pumper.
